Sarasota Police officers closed a portion of U.S. 301 after a vehicle struck a child in a stroller after 10 a.m. this morning. All of those lanes reopened as of 11:30 a.m.

An unnamed woman, 42, and her 1-year-old grandson were attempting to cross North Washington Boulevard at Fourth Street before the accident, according to SPD spokeswoman Genevieve Judge. A Cadillac SUV traveling northbound struck the pair.

Emergency personnel transported the child to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital by Bayflite, where medical staff have listed him as in stable condition. The grandmother is recovering at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 301 were closed between Fruitville Road and Fifth Street while officers investigated the incident. The driver has been cooperative.
