The National Weather Service has cancelled a tornado warning issued for eastern Manatee County. A tornado had been spotted in Myakka.

The weather service also has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for seven counties, including Sarasota and Manatee counties. The watch will remain in effect until 11 p.m. tonight.

Meteorologists have detected thunderstorms located along a line extending from Plant City to the Little Manatee River State Park to Siesta Key or along a line extending from Plant City to 14 miles southwest of Fish Hawk to Sarasota, the National Weather Service reports.

The storms are moving eastward at 35 miles per hour. Lightning is expected, and the weather services advises residents to go indoors and find a low spot. Torrential rains will cause low visibility on roadways, as well.
