UPDATE: Funeral specifics set for East County man hit on his bicycle

After the passing of Lakewood Ranch resident Donald Mader, April 5, his wife, Joyce, and other family members will soon celebrate his life.

At 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 7461 Prospect Road, Sarasota, the Mader family will pay tribute to Donald, 83, who died after being hit by a car April 4.

Mader served on the Modification Review Committee and had a passion for serving Lakewood Ranch, his friends agree.

The Maders, who "rode their bikes everywhere," according to friends close to the couple, traveled along Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Parkside Place when Lindsay Damery hit them.

The 22-year-old ran a red light and hit the left side of Mader's body and his bicycle, causing him to collide with Joyce, who suffered minor injuries.

The investigation continues.
