Nearly two weeks after a 5-year-old boy was critically injured after being stricken by a cab-over truck, the child's father is being charged with child negligence.

The Florida Highway Patrol today announced its has filed charges with the State Attorney's Office against Sergio Jackson, the father of Isaiah Jackson, the child who sustained critical injuries Feb. 15 after riding his bicycle into the intersection of University Parkway and Lockwood Ridge Road unsupervised.

The child also was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The original FHP report stated a 2001 Kensworth T800 CAB truck, driven by 35-year-old Tyler Bowser, was heading eastbound on University in the right lane, approaching a green traffic signal at Lockwood Ridge Road, when Isaiah Jackson, of Sarasota, rode his bicycle through a cross walk and into the path of the truck.

The truck slowed, but was unable to stop before colliding with the right side of Isaiah, who was ejected from his Redline Roam bicycle.
