Longboat Key residents David Brenner and Lee Pokoik have become official Longboat Key Town Commission candidates, according to Town Clerk Trish Granger.

Islander Club resident and former Planning and Zoning Board Chairman David Brenner will run against District 3 Commissioner Peter O’Connor, who is seeking his third consecutive term in office.

The town will now have at least two contested commission races this March.

Bay Isles resident Phillip Younger already has qualified to run against At-large Commissioner Hal Lenobel.
Country Club Shores resident Lee Pokoik is running for the District 1 commission seat currently held by Mayor Lee Rothenberg. Country Club Shores resident Lynn Larson also has expressed an interest in running for the District 1 seat.

The only other potential candidate to take out papers in consideration of the District 1 commission seat is Islandside Property Owners Coalition Chairman Bob White.

The District 1 seat becomes available this March because Rothenberg will term limit out unless a resolution the commission considers next month is approved. That resolution would allow the mayor to run for an additional two-year term.
