Update: During a routine inspection, a Florida State Department of Agriculture specialist found a skimming device on a gas pump at Crazy Papa's convenience store and BP gas station, located at 4720 53rd Avenue East. The Sheriff's Office is investigating the skimmer, and it's unknown yet if the new one is related to another skimmer found in Lakewood Ranch on Tuesday.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible fraud in Lakewood Ranch.

Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, a bank customer at SunTrust Bank, located at 1605 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., noticed a device at the ATM now confirmed to be a skimming device used to steal credit or debit card information.
Detectives are still investigating, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow, and watching video surveillance to try to find when someone installed the device.

The Sheriff’s Office is not sure how many customers may have been affected.

“You have to pinpoint when it was put on,” Bristow said.

The office is in contact with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, as its department reported two skimming devices yesterday at two different SunTrust Bank ATMs in Davenport, Fla. Bristow said the departments are not yet certain if the acts are related.
