The Florida Department of Transportation is preparing for traffic pattern changes at the University Parkway and Interstate 75 interchange, where it is reconfiguring the intersection into a diverging diamond configuration.

Public workshops are slated for April 4.

At the April 4 workshops, participants can review project exhibits and speak with FDOT staff for the first half hour. During the second half-hour, there will be a presentation about the project and the implementation of the new traffic pattern.

The diverging diamond traffic pattern is similar to a traditional diamond interchange, except that both directions of traffic on University Parkway will shift to the left side of the roadway while going through the interchange. Traffic entering and exiting the interstate does not have to cross traffic while making left-hand turns.

Dates for the actual traffic pattern change have not been released but likely will occur in late spring.

Information for the meetings are as follows:

When: 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 4

Where: Second floor of Everglades University, 6001 Lake Osprey Dr., Sarasota

Format: For the first half hour, attendees can review project exhibits and other materials. For the second half-hour, attendees will hear a presentation about the project and traffic pattern implementation, followed by a time for questions.

Other: Persons requiring special accommodations under the American with Disabilities Act or persons who require (free) translation services, should contact Jamie Schley at 863-519-2573 or [email protected].
