Two turtle nests set for excavation this weekend

Two turtle nests have hatched and will be excavated by Longboat Key Turtle Watch volunteers this weekend.

The first nest opening will take place at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, at Sea Pines, 6951 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Park at the public beach access at Broadway.

The second nest opening will take place at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29, at 6111 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Parking is available at Cannons Marina, 6040 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

The events will be canceled only in the event of lightning.
