Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key President Richard Crawford and his wife, Yvonne, celebrated their 45-year anniversary June 15.

Their first date was Feb. 14, 1964. They went to a movie and McDonald’s.

Since that date under the golden arches, you could say they’ve upgraded. The Crawfords celebrated their anniversary at the Omni Amelia Plantation Resort.

Crawford’s fellow Kiwanian, Longboat Key resident Weldon Frost and his wife, Brenda, celebrated their 45th anniversary June 28. The couple was married June 28, 1968, by the British Consul in the British Embassy in Tripoli, Libya. After the ceremony, the consul told Frost the “rule of thumb”:

“Mr. Frost, I have to tell you that under British common law you are forbidden to beat your wife with a stick thicker than your thumb.”

Frost reports that he has been a stickler for that rule. He also clearly follows another rule of thumb: Take your wife out on your anniversary.

The Frosts celebrated their anniversary over dinner at Harry’s Continental Kitchens.
