Two finalists for Manatee superintendent job apply to work for Mills

Two finalists for the Manatee County Schools superintendent job that eventually went to Rick Mills applied for No. 2 positions in the district.

Former Marion County Superintendent Diana Greene, who earned two votes from the school board for the top job in February, and former Duval County Chief Academic Officer Kathryn LeRoy applied for the district’s deputy superintendent for instructional services position.

Six others applied for that post, while six applied for a second deputy superintendent position created by Mills, this one to lead district operations and finances.

The two new deputy superintendent positions, new jobs approved by the School Board last week, replace assistant superintendent positions held by Scott Martin and Bob Gagnon.

Gagnon did not reapply for either of the new jobs.

Martin recently agreed to assume a staff attorney position.

The school board will approve Mills’ choices for deputy superintendent at its April 22 meeting.

Mills will also address Gagnon’s future then.
