Travelers take note: Sarasota Half Marathon & Relay hits street Sunday

The race will temporary close roads near Longboat Key.

Drivers looking to avoid traffic Sunday morning should take note of the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon & Relay.

The race begins around 6:45 a.m. and wraps up around 11 a.m. Its route begins at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on 10th Street in Sarasota, heads across the John Ringling Bridge to St. Armands Circle and back.

Full list of expected temporary road closures:

  •      6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. -- Southbound US 41 from 10th Street to Gulfstream Avenue
  •      6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. -- John Ringling Causeway, Westbound lanes starting at Gulf Stream Ave to St. Armand’s Circle
  •    6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. – St. Armand’s Circle to Adams Drive (all directions)
  • 6:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – US 41/N Tamiami Trail, Southbound 10th Street and Indian Beach Drive 
  • 6:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. – Indian Beach Drive (North/West) to 47th Street

The city of Sarasota Police Department will be managing traffic during the race, assisting drivers through intersections between gaps of runners.

Entering its twelfth year, this year’s half marathon will include 3,000 participants, including both runners and walkers.
