TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Siesta road closed for sewer repair

Sarasota County deputies are directing school traffic at the intersection of Higel Avenue and Midnight Pass Road today while a Sarasota county contractor repairs a sewer break on Mangrove Point Road.

“Please contact Out of Door Academy right away so they can let parents know,” said County Commissioner Christine Robinson in an Aug. 19 email to staff. “The first day of school for ODA is tomorrow and this is the road all parents use to get to the school from south of the school.”

Officers will be allowing left turns from Midnight Pass Road onto Higel during the closure.

The county expects Mangrove Point to remain closed today, but the Sheriff’s Office will have deputies on site guiding traffic again at roughly 2:25 p.m. when school is out, said county spokesman Jason Bartolone.
