Town receives bid on north-end beach project

The town of Longboat Key received the following bids Tuesday, Oct. 26 for the north-end beach restoration project:

Sand placement $2.59 million
Cost per cubic yard $19.50
Total: $6.6 million

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock
Mobilization/demobilization $2.13 million
Sand placement $3.19 million
Cost per cubic yard $24
Total: $5.42 million

Cashman Inc.
Mobilization/demobilization $1.13 million
Sand placement $2.13 million
Cost per cubic yard $16
Total: $3.5 million

In September, the town received a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to restore the severely eroded beach within a 10-year period. The town has put aside $4.5 million in its 2010-11 fiscal year budget for the project, which is expected to take at least one month to complete.

The town will discuss the project at a special workshop meeting from noon to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Longboat Key Town Hall chambers.
