Town Manager Bruce St. Denis, along with other town staff directors, volunteered to ring the bell for the Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key’s Salvation Army kettle Friday, Dec. 18, at the Longboat Key Publix.

It’s the second year in a row St. Denis has volunteered for a shift. His secret to acquiring donations? He says “thank you” to everyone as they walk in or out of Publix, hoping the gesture will spark goodwill.

And, also keeping with tradition, Edith Barr Dunn will be ringing the bell on Christmas Eve at the Salvation Army kettle at the Avenue of the Flowers. Dunn will be the final bell ringer of the season and will present the last kettle (and its contents) to a Salvation Army representative at 4 p.m.
