A tornado warning is currently in effect for Longboat Key, according to the Weather Channel’s website, weather.com. The site also predicts showers, thunderstorms and severe winds over the next six hours and warns that power outages could occur as the result of strong winds.

A flood watch is also in effect for the Key, with flooding reported on the north end earlier this weekend. The town has also closed the North Shore Road beach access.

The town is monitoring the storm but has not ordered evacuations, according to Longboat Key Fire Rescue Chief Paul Dezzi.
