SIESTA KEY
Aug. 12
Mr. Roper strikes again
8 p.m. — 2200 block of Cork Oak Drive
. Suspicious Incident.  A senior citizen believes her landlord may be giving her problems. She told the Sheriff’s Office that he might be shutting off the water to the laundry room in her rental home. The deputy who responded couldn’t tell if the issue was landlord-related or just a routine maintenance issue. Nonetheless, he wrote in his report that there were problems with the landlord, but he didn’t elaborate.

SARASOTA

Aug. 15
Crooked contractor
1:47 p.m. — 2800 block of Sterling Lane.
Grand Theft. A woman had hired a man to do some work on a home she owned. One day, she began reviewing the invoices he was giving her and noticed something fishy. She was billed for the installation and purchase of 20 doors. Her home only has nine of them. She was also charged for two hot-water heaters and was billed twice for the installation of the same kitchen sink. When she fired him, he took some building materials the woman had purchased. Deputies were not able to immediately locate the man.

EAST COUNTY
Aug. 14
Relationship problems
2 p.m. — 6200 block of State Road 64 E. Theft. The victim reported her boyfriend stole the radio from her car and pawned it. She stated she allowed him to borrow her car after he dropped her off at work. That’s when he removed the radio from the car and pawned it to get money to buy drugs. The victim stated her boyfriend admitted he pawned the radio, and she also found the pawnshop receipt in her car.

LONGBOAT
Aug. 16
Asleep at the wheel?
7:21 p.m. — 400 block of GMD.
Property Found. Police found a blanket, pillow and rolled-up mat lying on the ground that appeared to have fallen off of someone’s vehicle. The items were taken to the police station for safekeeping.
