Three groins are needed to control erosion on the north end of Longboat Key, according to the findings of the Longboat Pass Inlet Management Study presented yesterday to the Longboat Key Town Commission at a special workshop by Coastal Planning & Engineering Inc. (CP&E) President Tom Campbell.

The study recommends the construction of a single terminal groin and two permeable adjustable groins on the north end of Longboat Key and suggests that the town should file a Joint Coastal Permitting (JCP) permit for all three structures immediately. It also recommends modifying existing JCP permits to include the Longboat Pass Authorized Federal Channel as an approved borrow area for any future projects.
