Street closures begin for Thunder By The Bay

From Friday through Sunday, a number of streets in downtown Sarasota and Southside Village will be closed for the 18th annual edition of the motorcycle festival.

Festivities for the 18th Annual Thunder by the Bay motorcycle festival began Thursday, and street closures for the event are taking effect beginning today.

Closures for the festival will affect travel in the downtown area through Sunday night, with a new event impacting Southside Village Friday evening.

Here’s a rundown of all the planned street closures, provided by the Sarasota Police Department:

8 a.m. Friday to 6:30 p.m. Sunday:

First Street, from Central Avenue to Pineapple Avenue

2 p.m. to midnight, Friday:

Hillview Street, from U.S. 41 to Osprey Avenue

2 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday:

Main Street, from U.S. 41 to the alley west of Gulfstream Avenue in the 1300 block
Gulfstream Avenue, east of the median, from the Gulfstream Towers parking garage to Cocoanut Avenue
Gulfstream Avenue, west of the median, from McAnsh Square to Banana Place

6 a.m. Saturday to 6:30 p.m. Sunday:

Main Street, from Pineapple Avenue to the alley west of Gulfstream Avenue in the 1300 block
Main Street, from Central Avenue to Lemon Avenue
Main Street, from Lemon Avenue to Orange Avenue
Gulfstream Avenue, east of the Median, from Cocoanut Avenue to Banana Place
Palm Avenue, from McAnsh Square to the alley by Café Epicure
Central Avenue, from First Street to Main Street
Lemon Avenue, from First Street to State Street

The roundabout at Five Points will remain open, according to the SPD. Vehicles will be towed beginning at each posted closure time.
