There isn’t much time left to get your claws on stone crabs: Today, May 15, is the last day of stone crab season.

Local restaurateurs and crabbers report the season was slower than usual for the second consecutive year due to a number of factors, including warm water temperatures. Without cold fronts and winds, which stir up the waters, stone crabs tend to burrow in the sand.

Stone crab season resumes Oct. 15.
