Longboat Key Planning, Zoning and Building Director Robin Meyer has recommended to the Longboat Key Town Commission in a staff report that the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort’s deadline to reopen with its current number of units be extended until June 30, 2014.

The staff report, which will be reviewed at the commission’s 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4 regular meeting, explains that “multiple legal restraints have prohibited the timely redevelopment or reporting of the Colony.”

“Staff has concerns regarding the continued deterioration of the Colony property while the legal issues are being resolved. Denial of this petition may add another layer of legal restraint that may further delay opening of the Colony.”

For more information on the Colony extension decision, check www.yourobserver.com on Tuesday, Sept 4 and pick up a copy of Thursday’s Sept. 6 Longboat Observer.
