While the city of Sarasota moves to regulate Uber within city limits, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport has signed an agreement allowing drivers to pick up passengers from the terminal.

"We are excited to announce that the Sarasota airport has recognized Uber's value to the community and has provided us with clear instructions for how you can connect with passengers at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport," said the company in an email to drivers. "Effective immediately, the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority has established a designated area, just for pickups, for any trip that uses the Uber platform."

Drivers for the smartphone app-based ride service are required to wait in the short-term parking area, and Uber will be required to pay the airport $2.50 for every pickup that occurs. The contract expires at the end of the year.

"Uber will not reimburse you if you are ticketed for picking up a rider outside of the Short Term Parking Lot," said the company in the email. "Uber will also not reimburse you for the cost of parking in the Short Term Parking Lot."
