+ Miss Manatee wins All-Star Championship
The Miss Manatee Softball 13-and-up All-Star team won the NSA Rec Ball Fast Pitch Softball All-Star Championship May 13-14.

The team went undefeated in pool play, defeating Venice 4-2 and Charlotte 11-0. In single elimination, Miss Manatee defeated Venice 5-2 to advance to the championship game.

With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh inning of the championship game, Miss Manatee scored on a throwing error to defeat Manatee Girls Softball 2-1. This marks the third year in a row Miss Manatee has captured the championship.

Championship players include: Kinsey Goelz, Bethaney Keen, Kaylee Misiti, Myah Moy, Gina Panik, Heather Payne, Brooke Rehfeldt, Megan Stevens, Lauren Turner, Danielle Walker and Ali Yawn.

+ Gator Air wins LRLL championship
Gator Air Conditioning recently captured the 2011 Spring Ball AAA Division championship for Lakewood Ranch Little League.

The team defeated USA Fence 10-4 in the final game of the season to capture the championship.

+ Junior Golf Clinics raise money for JDRF
Ian Segneri of the Missing Link Junior Golf Academy will host a series of golf clinics for children ages 12 and under.

The clinics will be held from 9-11 a.m., every Saturday morning at Legacy Golf Club, 8255 Legacy Blvd., Lakewood Ranch. Each session is $30 and all of the proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Segneri’s goal is to raise $3,500 by the start of the New York City Marathon Nov. 6, which he is running in an effort to raise money for the JDRF.

+ Braden River graduate selected in MLB draft
Braden River High 2010 graduate Austin Platt was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 26th round of the 50-round Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft June 7. After receiving a $20,000 signing bonus and $40,000 in college education funds, the former Pirates pitcher signed with the Diamonbacks June 9, entering the rookie Arizona League.

Braden River Little League recently announced its 11- and 12-year-old and Junior All-Star teams.
