Senior swimmer Johnny Silvers added his name to Lakewood’s growing list of scholarship recipients, signing a letter-of-intent this afternoon to swim for the Nittany Lions next fall.
Silvers chose Penn State over Florida State after visiting State College in early September.
“I just really loved Penn State,” Silvers said. “It’s so spirited and it just feels like a big family. It has such a good team atmosphere.
“It’s so exciting,” he added. “I’m really happy. The whole process was so stressful, so to have the end result be what I wanted is so exciting.”
Silvers, who swam the 200-and-500-yard freestyles and the 200-and-400-yard freestyle relays for the Mustangs, is expecting to swim the one-mile and 500 freestyle and either the 200 butterfly or the 400 individual medley next fall.
“It’s going to be a different circuit than high school, but it’s good,” Silvers said.
Silvers will spend the rest of his senior year and next summer swimming for the Sarasota Sharks before heading to Penn State where he plans to major in pre-medicine with the hopes of one day becoming a plastic surgeon.
