The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is reporting about a 25% drop in calls for service on Siesta Key from last year to this year.

Although the exact figures have yet to be calculated, it’s estimated that calls for service will drop from about 800 last year to 600 this year.

Sheriff’s deputies site the unusually cold winter and spring as a major factor.

The first few weeks of spring break were chilly, and that kept a lot of college students off the beach, where many calls for service are generated.
