Palm-Aire resident, 9, picks up pair of tour wins 

Palm-Aire resident Alana Kutt, 9, fired an even par 36 to win the 8-and 9-year-old girls division of the U.S. Kids Tour event May 2, at the Fountains Country Club in Boca Raton. 

The Tabernacle Christian School third-grader followed up her performance with a first-place finish at another U.S. Kids Tour event May 3, at Cypress Creek Country Club in Boynton Beach, where she fired another even par 36. 

ODA celebrates athletic achievements 

The Out-of-Door Academy held its Athletic Awards Ceremony May 9. 

Austin Hoppe and M’Balia Bangoura were named the Thunder’s male and female athletes of the year, respectively. 

ODA presented MVP and coach awards for each of its varsity sports. 

Individual winners include: 

  • Football: Austin Hoppe (MVP) and Owen Han (Coach)
  • Boys Cross-Country: Erick Pena (MVP) and Jack Malcom (Coach) 
  • Girls Cross-Country: Chloe Ruppert (MVP) and Carling Landeche (Coach)

BRSC to hold tryouts 

The Braden River Soccer Club will hold tryouts from May 26 through May 31 for its competitive fall season. 

Tryouts are open to all boys and girls, ages 7 to 18. For a complete schedule of dates and times for each age and gender group, visit bradenriversoccer.org. 

Lakewood Ranch High to honor state champions

Lakewood Ranch High will host the fourth annual Bob Boast Volkswagen State Champions Scramble May 30, on the Royal Lakes Course at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. 

The four-man scramble event will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and will honor all Mustangs state champions. 

Cost is $100 per person and includes green and cart fees and range balls. Players also will enjoy a buffet dinner, longest drive, par 3 and putting contests and tee gifts. Tee signs also are available for $100. 

An additional fifth player from Lakewood’s boys and girls golf teams, present and alumni, will be added to each team through an auction. 

Special honorees this year include the 2015 state champion girls tennis team and members of the track and field team.

Mustangs to hold basketball camp

Registration is now under way for Lakewood Ranch High’s annual summer basketball camp. 

The camp, which is open to all boys and girls entering second through ninth grades, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 15 through June 18; June 22 through June 25; July 6 through July 9; and July 13 through July 16. Cost is $140 ($164 with lunch provided). Pre- and aftercare is available at an additional cost. Multiweek and sibling discounts are also available. All campers will receive a T-shirt and basketball. 

This year’s camp, which will be conducted by Lakewood boys coach Jeremy Schiller, girls coach Tina Hadley and Mustangs players, will feature skills and drills, full-court games, daily and weekly contests and elite instruction for all skill levels.

Wave Runners compete at nationals 

Five members of the Lakewood Ranch YMCA Wave Runners swim team hit the water for the 2015 YMCA Short Course National Championship March 30 through April 3, in Greensboro, N.C. 

It was the most swimmers the club has ever sent to Y Nationals, besting its previous high of two swimmers, with several swimmers setting personal best times. 

Y National swimmers include: 

  • Courtney Chapin
  • Emily Loefgren 
  • Luke Morris
  • Kate Walker
  • Ryan Walker
