+ Lakewood girls finish second
The Lakewood Ranch High girls cross-country team finished second at the Bradenton Runners Club Invitational Sept. 14, at G.T. Bray.

The Lady Mustangs scored 67 points to finish behind Sarasota (27).

Julia Ortiz finished fifth in 20 minutes, 51.18 seconds to lead the way for Lakewood. Andrea McDonald was sixth in 20:53.93, followed by Michelle Last (14th, 21:43.27), Elizabeth Chandler (21st, 22:36.46) and Sara Kelly (27th, 22:55.30).

+ Braden River will host golf tournament
The Braden River High baseball and softball teams will hold their first golf tournament Oct. 19, at Tara Golf and Country Club, 6602 Drewrys Bluff, Bradenton.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Cost is $90 per player and includes green fees, golf cart, range balls, a buffet luncheon, gifts, two drink tickets and a T-shirt.

Players also can participate in a raffle and a silent auction for a chance to win sports memorabilia, excursions and more.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Pirates’ baseball and softball programs.
Deadline to register is Oct. 11.

+ ODA swings past Southeast
The Out-of-Door Academy boys golf team defeated Southeast 160-234 Sept. 9, at Tara Preserve Golf Course.

Gary Deng and Tomas Vicek both shot 39 to lead the way for the Thunder. Ricardo Vicek shot 40. Max Coutioultsos shot 42. Josh Silverman added a 44, and Cisco Marcano shot 45.

+ ODA sweeps Imagine High School
The Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team defeated Imagine High School 25-13, 25-13, 25-10 Sept. 12.
With the win, the Lady Thunder improved to 5-1 (2-1).

Taylor Albano led ODA with five kills and six aces. Reanna Gregory contributed five kills, and Savannah Jones added four kills. Cameron Graham had nine perfect passes, eight digs and eight aces.

+ SCF to hold invitational tourney
The State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota volleyball team will host the SCF Invitational Tournament Sept. 20 and Sept. 21.

The Manatees will play at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 20, and 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 21, at Hal Chasey Gymnasium on the campus of SCF, 5840 26th St. W.

SCF will open the season with its first conference game Sept. 24 versus South Florida State College.

+ Cardinal Mooney football
The Cardinal Mooney High’s defense forced four turnovers, including three interceptions, to propel the Cougars to a 44-7 victory over Lake Placid Sept. 13.

Running back Demardre Patterson scored on runs of 63, 5 and 5 yards to lead the way for the Cougars.
Quarterback Reese Vita connected with Austin Leach for a 45-yard touchdown.

Robby Howard kicked a field goal, and Clarke Horne added a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Cardinal Mooney returns to non-district action Sept. 20 vs. Avon Park.
