The Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team set a new team best and Manatee County Championship record with a 14-under par team total Oct. 11.

The Mustangs beat runner-up Bradenton Christian by 42 shots to win their sixth-consecutive Manatee County Championship.

Ramsey Touchberry shot 67 to finish as the individual runner-up. Danny Walker and Luke Miller both shot 68. Charlie and Kelly Sun each added a 71.

All five players were named to the All-County team.

On Oct. 10, the Mustangs defeated 19 Tampa Bay area teams at the Vinoy Golf Club in St. Petersburg.
Walker shot a 4-under par 67 to win the tournament. Kelly Sun finished fourth with a 69. Miller and Touchberry both shot 74. Charlie Sun added a 77.

+Lady Thunder sweeps Lady Seminoles
The Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team defeated Southeast 25-19, 25-14, 25-20 Oct. 9.

Natalie Buffett powered the Lady Thunder with 15 kills and 13 perfect passes. Taylor Albano contributed nine kills and two aces. Samantha Emmons recorded eight kills. Cameron Graham had 23 digs and eight aces.

With the win, ODA improves to 11-2.

+Cougars win on the road
The Cardinal Mooney High football team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 14-12 victory over St. Pete Catholic Oct. 11.

The Cougars took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 4-yard run by Demardre Patterson.

Trailing 12-7 at halftime, Cardinal Mooney regained the lead when quarterback Reese Vita connected with Austin Leach for a 19-yard touchdown.

Vita completed 9-of-10 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. Leach hauled in five catches for 69 yards. Patterson finished with 70 yards on 15 carries.

Cardinal Mooney returns to district action Oct. 18 versus rival ODA.

+Admirals remain unbeaten
The Manatee Admirals hockey team remained unbeaten with an 8-0 victory over Palm Harbor Oct. 11.

Freshman goalie Dominick Tmej had 24 saves to lead Manatee to victory. Braden River junior Zach McCoy had two goals and an assist. Lakewood Ranch junior Brett Wessel recorded four points.

Lakewood Ranch sophomore Rhett Rampinelli scored two goals.

The Admirals return to action at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 vs. Bloomingdale.

+Gladiators seeking players
The Bradenton Gladiators are looking for prospective players for the 2014 football season.

Players should be 18 years and older and have a passion for playing football.

The Gladiators will hold open registration and organized training activities throughout October for all players.

Registration dates include:
5-8 p.m. Oct. 17
3:30-6 p.m. Oct. 20
5-8 p.m. Oct. 24
3:30-6 p.m. Oct. 27

Registration will be held at Manatee PAL, 202 13th Ave. W., Bradenton. Cost is $25 for all players and must be paid prior to participation.
