+ McDermott finishes third in FACA Senior All-Star Meet
Lakewood Ranch senior Devin McDermott was one of 30 runners, representing teams from the four regions across Florida, selected to participate in the annual FACA Senior All-Star Meet Dec. 3 in Tallahassee.
McDermott finished third with a time of 18:55.

+ Tabernacle girls team qualifies for nationals
The Tabernacle Christian Middle School girls cross-country team earned an automatic qualifying bid for the 2011 AAU Cross Country National Championship Dec. 3 at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

Tabernacle’s cross country team includes Taylor and Jordan Augustyniak, Emily Weil, Alexis Beuge and Lauren Cash. Tabernacle hasn’t lost in a Florida Gulf Coast Athletic League meet in three years. This year, the team won the Florida Gulf Coast Athletic League championship, finished second at the Little Everglades Pre-State Invitational for middle schools and 11th in the Florida Middle School State Championships.
“I am extremely proud of these young women for all their hard work throughout the year,” coach Matt Augustyniak said. “This is the future of cross country in the area.”

+ ODA blanks rival Bradenton Christian
The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team shut out rival Bradenton Christian 5-0 in district action Nov. 29.
Emily Camire, Katie Lang, Alyssa Mason, Ali Gentile and Elena Ciaccio all scored goals for the Lady Thunder. Melanie Mason finished with three assists, and goalkeeper Sammi Jo Gaeta earned the shutout.
