+ ODA rolls past DeSoto County
The Out-of-Door Academy baseball team cruised to a 13-3 victory over DeSoto County Feb. 28.
Austin Hoppe struck out 13 in the win. Desmond Lindsay hit his fifth home run of the season.

+ Pirates win back-to-back games
The Braden River High baseball team earned a pair of victories last week.

The Pirates scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind and beat rival Lakewood Ranch 8-7 Feb. 28.

Myles Straw came on in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win for Braden River. He also went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Eric Schappacher went 2-for-3 with a two-run double.

On March 1, Braden River earned its first district win of the season, with a 4-1 victory over Charlotte. Straw went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases, and Schappacher went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

+ Thunder LAX posts win
The Out-of-Door Academy boys lacrosse team defeated Sarasota Military Academy 6-4 in its season opener March 1.

Andrew Romano and Jeremy Herrin each had a pair of goals for the Thunder.

+ Youth Baseball Day upcoming
Youth Baseball Day, presented by the Lakewood Ranch Pediatric Unit, will be held March 10, at Ed Smith Stadium.

All youth baseball teams that sign up will receive $10 discounted tickets to the Baltimore Orioles game versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Players also will be able to participate in a pregame, on-field parade around the warning track.

+ Totally Tennis Exhibition Series continues March 10
The fifth match of the $25,000 Totally Tennis Exhibition Series will be held at 11 a.m. March 10, at the Payne Park Tennis Center.

Payne Park Tennis Director Sean Rogers and Mick Behr, who is ranked 10th in Florida’s 4.5 division, will face Celsius Academy junior tennis players Zack Burau, 15, and Antoine Sanchez, 13.

+ Perna fires 65 in GSJGA win
Riverview High’s Jeremy Perna shot a 7-under par 65 to win the boys 13-15 age group of the second of five Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association Winter Tournament Series events Feb. 24, at the Meadows Country Club.

Perna won the event by 13 strokes.
