+ LWR set to tee off for Fall Golf Classic
The Lakewood Ranch High athletic department will hold its 2013 Fall Golf Classic Oct. 5, at the Legacy Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch.

The four-person scramble fundraising event will begin with registration and breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $100 per person and includes golf, food and beverages. Sponsorship opportunities also are available.

Team awards will be given for both gross and net divisions. Individual awards also will be handed out, including closest to the pin, hole-in-one and longest drive.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Lakewood Ranch’s athletic teams.

Following the tournament, players will enjoy an awards luncheon, which will feature a silent auction.

+ Lady Cougars tame the Lady Thunder

The Cardinal Mooney volleyball team defeated rival The Out-of-Door Academy 25-12, 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10 in district action Sept. 24.

Kerri McMahon led the Lady Cougars with 12 kills and 13 digs. Alexis James added four blocks and three kills. Kelli Firek contributed five kills and six blocks. Madison McMally added 14 kills.

Natalie Buffet had 13 kills and nine digs to power the Lady Thunder. Cameron Graham had 39 perfect passes, 11 digs and three aces. Reanna Gregory contributed four kills and three blocks. With the loss, ODA falls to 6-2 (3-2).

+ LR Mustangs swing past Sarasota Sailors
The Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team defeated Sarasota 164-173 in a dual match Sept. 25, at Greenfield Plantation.

Louie DelFabro shot 40 to win medalist honors for the first time. Chris Proffitt and Ben Parisi each shot 41. Daniel Miller added a 42.

+ Manatee hockey wins season opener
The Manatee Admirals high school hockey team opened its season with a 12-0 victory over Bloomingdale Sept. 27.

Nick Walters recorded a hat trick and goalie Matthew Richard recorded the shutout to lead the way for the Admirals.

Brett Wessel added two goals and an assist. Dylan Longo contributed three points.
The Admirals return to action Oct. 4 versus Sarasota County.

After scoring three touchdowns in the first half, the Lakewood Ranch High football team held on to beat Charlotte 26-23 in non-district action Sept. 27.

Justin Fischer and Wyatt McLeod both scored 3-yard touchdown runs, and Chad Rex rushed for a 13-yard score to give the Mustangs a 20-0 halftime lead.

Rex connected with Trevor Losada with 5 minutes, 28 seconds left in the fourth quarter for the game-winning touchdown.

With the win, Lakewood improves to 3-2. The Mustangs return to district action Oct. 4 versus North Port in their homecoming game.
