+ Pair of Mustangs win individual golds
Lakewood Ranch High swimmers Luke Hanner and Daniel Erlenmeyer both captured individual gold medals at the Class 3A Swimming and Diving Championships Nov. 8, in Stuart.

Hanner captured the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 39.03 seconds to finish ahead of Erlenmeyer, who was fourth in 1:41.16. Hanner also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.33).

Erlenmeyer returned to the pool to win the 500 freestyle in 4:27.76.

On the girls side, Lakewood Ranch’s Madison Jean finished second in the 100 butterfly (54.27) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (53.10). She then teamed up with Courtney Chapin, Haille Bogumil and Malorie Schuerman for a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay and a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:50.49). Chapin placed fifth in the 100 backstroke (58.06) and eighth in the 50 freestyle (24.49).

The Lady Mustangs finished fifth in the team standings, while the Lakewood boys were 10th.

+ Bulldogs win division championship
The East Manatee Bulldogs Junior PeeWee team defeated the Tampa PAL Patriots 19-12 to win the Division 3 Conference Championship Nov. 8.

Josh Thomas scored three touchdowns, and Deshaun Ousley ran in an extra point. Strong defensive efforts from Trevor Jackson and Ousley helped secure the victory for the Bulldogs. With the win, East Manatee will travel to Tampa to face the Clermont Knights in the playoffs.

In other conference championship action, the Bulldogs PeeWee squad fell to the North Manatee Storm 26-14 and the Junior Midget squad fell to the Storm 30-8.

+ Mustangs coach notches 100th win
Lakewood Ranch High boys soccer coach Vito Bavaro earned his 100th career victory, as the Mustangs defeated Clearwater Central Catholic 5-0 Nov. 4.

Ricky Yanez, Pablo Vargas, Schmid Payen, Jake Dube and Jake Sollazzo all scored goals for Lakewood. Liam Bramley had five saves in his first shutout of the season.

Following the game, co-captains Bramley and Dube presented Bavaro with the game ball.

Bavaro has won district titles each of the past two seasons for the Mustangs.
