On Friday, the owners of the Ringling Shopping Center took the battle over a Walmart Supercenter once proposed at the site to Lakeland.

John P. Harlee III, attorney for Louis and Diana Doyle, filed a petition for certeriori with Florida's Second District Court of Appeal in Lakeland Dec. 6, according to court records.

The suit asks for an appeal of Circuit Court Judge Kimberly Carlton Bonner's decision to uphold the Sarasota City Commission's Feb. 23 denial of a site plan for the 98,000-square-foot supercenter, according to an email from Sarasota City Attorney Bob Fournier to commissioners.

Fournier said in a Dec. 10 voicemail message he would be unable to comment on the case until he finishes reading the petition.
