Sheriff's Office identifies body found in Gulf of Mexico

The body of a Sarasota resident found in the Gulf of Mexico has been identified. 

David Barngrover, 57, was found in the water Sunday afternoon after boaters in the Gulf spotted his body, said Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kaitlyn Johnston. The Sheriff’s Office marine unit, county fire department and the Sarasota Police Department responded at 2 p.m. and carried the body to the 10th Street boat ramp in the city of Sarasota, where he was pronounced dead.

Barngrover’s name was released Monday. The county medical examiner’s office is working on an autopsy. Barngrover’s death is still under investigation.
