To get more guns off the street, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office will hold another gun turn-in event this weekend.

In return for handing over an unused or unwanted firearm, county residents will receive $50 gift cards from Sweetbay Supermarket, Sports Authority and Bealls department stores.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at 2400 Colson Ave., Sarasota.

Similar events in 2009 and 2010 have each yielded more than 100 guns.
