Servian's missing husband's remains may be found

The husband of former Mayor Mary Anne Servian, who had been missing for more than seven months, may be found.

A hunter discovered skeletal remains yesterday near Mendon, Vt., about four miles from where Robert Servian’s car was located in May. Vermont state police are looking into the possibility that it’s the former mayor’s husband.

Servian has no doubt.

“I know it’s him,” an emotional Servian said.

The medical examiner has not issued a cause of death yet, but police said they found no evidence of foul play.

Crews are searching the area today for more remains. Servian said investigators soon will be trying to match dental records.

Robert Servian, 61, left Sarasota at the end of March and was last seen alive April 1 in Virginia. His car was found in a hotel parking lot in Rutland, Vt., May 3, but there were no signs of him. He was not a registered guest at the hotel.

Rutland is near the Appalachian Trail, which was where the human remains were found. Servian said her husband was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hike the trail.

“I want people to know he was a wonderful guy,” she said.

Robert Servian has two sons, two stepsons and five grandchildren.
