The $1.2 million remodeling of Selby Public Library, 1331 First St., Sarasota requires a temporary closing on Saturday, Oct. 1.
All other Sarasota County libraries will be open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Oct. 1 though. The Selby Public Library will reopen at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 3.
“Temporarily closing the library ensures the safety and comfort of patrons,” said Sarabeth Kalajian, general manager of the Sarasota County Library System, in a news release. “The project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in November.”
Selby Library, built in 1998, is the busiest of the county’s eight public libraries, handling an average of 800,000 visits each year. The goal of the renovation project includes an interior refurbishment, more convenient arrangement of computers and installation of an automated check-in system and a new state-of-the art Teen Center.
The remodeling project is funded by the voter-approved penny surtax (one-cent sales tax) and a grant from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation.
