SCORES: Sarasota Crew wins state championship

The Sarasota Crew collected 11 medals en route to winning the 2012 FSRA State Sculling Championship April 15.

The Crew finished 24 points ahead of second-place finisher Miami Beach Rowing Club in the 33-team field.

Gold medalists include: Boys and Girls Varsity 4X, Girls Junior 4X, Boys Junior 4X, Boys Freshman 4X and the Girls Junior 2X.

Silver medalists include: Girls Lightweight 4X, Boys Varsity 2X and Boys Junior 2X.

Bronze medalists include: Girls Varsity 2X and Boys Lightweight 4X.

The boys varsity quad of Ben Delaney, Carson Green, Travis Taafee and Ryan Houser received the Golden Blades Cup while the girls varsity quad of McKayla Taafee, Gabby Halula, Dale Main and Carolina Elizalde received the Jon Thaxton Cup. Katie DiVincenzo and Cassidy Marryott won the Junior Doubles Cup. Christina Warren, Kate Flanders, Jordan Bornstein and Allie Pitchford won the Girls Junior Quad Cup. Ryan Hails, Andre Dupuis, Tanner Plettzke and Andrew Koneckny won the Boys Junior Quad Cup. Finally, the Freshmen 4X team of Nick Edwards, Aidan Norder, Sebastian Spivey and Alex Dluzeneski received a new cup named in their honor.

"This truly was a team effort and we look forward to the FSRA Sweep Championship regatta in two weeks here in Sarasota,” head coach Casey Galvanek said. "These rowers have worked hard and it paid off today."
