On Tuesday, the Sarasota County School Board will discuss the district’s 2016-2017 budget, which is set to top $778 million, according to preliminary documents.

Although the overall School Board millage rate is down from 2015-16, thanks to a reduction in a portion set by the state, the budget shows an increase of 2.87% in property tax revenue compared to last year. The increase reflects a 9.17% increase in taxable property value in Sarasota County over last year.

The preliminary total millage rate is set at 7.433, and the proposed discretionary millage rate remains flat at .748. The owner of a home assessed at $200,000 in taxable value would pay $1,486.60 in taxes at that millage rate.

The full agenda for Tuesday’s meeting can be found on the School Board website.
