Sarasota Family YMCA announced today that CEO Paul Smith is departing from the organization.

Smith was CEO of Sarasota Family YMCA for two years. According to a press release by the YMCA, Smith made a number of adjustments to the YMCA during his tenure.

“When Mr. Smith arrived in Sarasota two years ago fresh from an assignment as Chief Operating Officer of the Kansas City, Missouri, YMCA,” Ed Landis, Chairman of the Sarasota Family YMCA board of directors, said, “none of us predicted the extent of the continuous economic deterioration in our marketplace, especially the lingering housing driven doldrums that are only now beginning to yield to stabilization.”

According to YMCA Director of Business Operations Virginia Ray, Smith hasn’t given a reason for his decision to depart. Sarasota YMCA will begin immediately to look for his replacement.

“We are quite fortunate to have in place the very same high caliber cadre of top tier executive officers who already were on board when Mr. Smith arrived, and I know they will carry on splendidly in the interim,” Landis said.
