This morning, military brides received a special gift for their upcoming special day — a wedding dress. Sarasota Brides & Formalwear, in partnership with Brides Across America, held its third annual free wedding dress giveaway known as "Operation Wedding Gown."
Military brides were invited to choose the dress of their dreams for free at the Sarasota bridal store located on Clark Road.
Managing partner Diane Warmbier says the day has become a special tradition at the family-ran store.
“It’s so exciting to be able to be a part of something that helps those who help us everyday,” Warmbier says before greeting a bride.
Sara Amick, an Air Force meteorologist based in Tampa, was the first customer to try on a dress. Amick is marrying fiancé Josh Condra, who she met in basic training, in December.
“I think it’s awesome,” she says before heading in to the changing room. “When I found out about this I was like, ‘wow!’”
In 2011, Sarasota Brides & Formalwear was the first store in Florida to give military brides free dresses. Today, the store partners with Brides Across America and is one of many stores in the state to offer the service.
Warmbier looks forward to the event all year long and is proud to be able to give back to the families.
“It’s a small thing we can do for them,” she says.
