Sarasota Police Officer Juan Sanchez rescued a duckling found near Robarts Arena this morning.

Sanchez discovered the baby duck, which was covered in mud, near a storm drain at the intersection of Ringling Boulevard and Pompano Avenue. Before transporting it to Save Our Seabirds, he cleaned the duckling and opened its airway.

The duckling, Freddy, is doing well, according to staff at the rescue organization.

Last summer, SPD and Sarasota County Fire Department personnel rescued a duckling that had fallen into a storm drain near Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
