Sarasota Police investigate shooting near SMA

Sarasota Police officers found a woman with a bullet wound in her head before 6 a.m. today, at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Ninth Street.

Authorities have closed the stretch of Ninth Street near Sarasota Military Academy around a black Volkswagen beetle, and emergency personnel transported the woman by helicopter to a local hospital, according to a news release.
