Sarasota Police investigate drowning at Centennial Park

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a drowning that occured in Sarasota Bay Tuesday.

Two men went swimming near Centennial Park adjacent to the intersection of 10th Street and North Tamiami Trail after drinking alcohol throughout the day, after which one of the men stopped moving. A nearby condonominium owner saw the commotion and called emergency personnel, according to a news release.

Sarasota Police officers attempted to rescue the victim, but were unsuccesful.

Authorites are withholding the name of the victim before his next of kin are notified.
