The city of Sarasota has announced a new emergency-notification system for residents and business owners, according to a June 7 news release.

The system transmits messages through pre-recorded calls to landlines and cell phones, and via text message and email during water service outages, hurricanes, flooding and severe weather warnings. The Rapid Notify system allows the city to target certain areas with specific messages using a global positioning system.

Click here to register for emergency notifications, or contact Utilities Director Mitt Tidwell at 356-2200 ext. 6210 for more information.
