Perhaps attracting young professionals isn't the only reason to push for a vibrant downtown Sarasota.

USA Today columnist Rodney Brooks wrote in a Sept. 10 article, that retiring baby boomers crave walkable metro areas, "cool ethnic restaurants and great shows." Sarasota even received a shout-out within the article.

TopRetirements.com founder John Brady says in the article that Sarasota has "an urban downtown but many walkable neighborhoods close by. There is lots happening, and it is possibly the cultural capital of Florida. And great beaches and keys nearby."
