Selby Poetry Café
Starts at 6 p.m. at Selby Public Library, 1331 First St. Join a discussion of contemporary and classic verse. This month will feature “Slow Lightning” by Eduardo C. Corral. Admission is free. Call 861-1175.

Saturday, Sept. 19
PWSA Sarasota Walk
Starts at 9 a.m. at J.D. Hamel Park, 1565 First St. Walk the Ringling Bridge and help support the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association. The route is an estimated three miles. Registration is $25 per person. Contact Leanne Gilliland at 487-6743.

A Taste of Downtown Sarasota
Runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 Pineapple Ave. Explore the menu, which includes tastings from more than 20 downtown restaurants, along with wine pairings. Proceeds benefit Sarasota Youth Opera. Tickets are $55 per person. Visit sarasotaopera.org.

Virtual Expressive Arts Day
Runs from 1 to 4 p.m. online. The Expressive Arts Institute of Florida wants to encourage anyone who is interested in art and the creative process to participate in a virtual experience. Expert expressive arts facilitators will guide this online experience, which includes meditation, art and writing. Open to all levels of experience. International Coastal Cleanup
Takes place all day at various locations in Sarasota County. Help keep Sarasota County beautiful on this annual cleanup day. Locations include: Bay Island Park, Bayfront Park and Marina, Bird Key Park, Centennial Park, Edwards Islands, Golden Beach, Ken Thompson Park, Lido Beach, Philippi Estate Park, Quick Point Nature Preserve, Ringling Causeway, Service Club Park, Siesta Beach, South Lido Beach and Turtle Beach.

Friday Fest
Starts at 5 p.m. at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 Tamiami Trail. Enjoy an evening on the bayfront with live music at this 14th annual summer music fest series. Barbershop Quartet
Starts at 1 p.m. at Fletcher Music Centers, 1270 S. Tamiami Trail. Fletcher Music Centers is hosting the Sandpiper Barbershop Chorus at the Osprey Music Hall. These seasoned male singers perform old time favorites and a few new tunes, too. Admission is free. Call 966-0800.

Movie Night: 'Cars 2'
Starts at 7 p.m. at the Sarasota Police Department, 2099 Adams Lane. In partnership with the Luhrsen Law Group, the Sarasota Police Department will host a movie night. The Sarasota County Fire Department will have a fire truck on display, and light snacks and beverages will also be available. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Redeemer Alzheimer's Support Group
Starts at 10 a.m. at Church of the Redeemer, 222 S Palm Ave. In Sarasota County, 17,000 people struggle with the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. On the third Thursday of each month, members of the community can take part in an Alzheimer’s support group. The group meets in room 209 of Gillespie Hall. Admission is free. Call 955-4263.
