Just 30 to 50 feet of dry beach remains between 360 North and the Gulf of Mexico, according to an email sent to the Longboat Key Town Commission by Town Manager David Bullock.

Bullock and Public Works Director Juan Florensa notified 360 North’s condominium association president Charles Sweeney about the severe erosion last week in a conference call.

Last summer, an emergency beach project deposited 133,000 cubic yards of sand along the north end as a temporary fix for erosion. However, the placement of permanent structures that will control long-term erosion will likely take between 24 and 36 months.

According to Bullock’s email, erosion of the existing sand could cause over wash in times of high surf, which could impact the grounds or buildings of the existing nine structures.
