Sales provide options for crafty Key shoppers

You probably have enough on your plate for Saturday, Nov. 17.

It’s the date of the Longboat Key Gourmet Lawn Party from noon to 2 p.m., during which 29 restaurants will be waiting to serve you their signature dishes.

But you might as well work up an appetite first.

That’s because it’s also the date of the St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Christmas Bazaar and the Longboat Island Chapel Chic & Unique Holiday Bazaar.

The St. Mary bazaar will feature its usual assortment of Christmas goodies, including decorations, knitted specialties, baked goods, gifts for grandchildren, pottery, fair trade crafts, raffles and more.

According to Clara McGonigle, one of the event’s organizers, each year’s sale features a wide variety, especially when it comes to knitted items.

“We have different things each year in our sewing and décor booth,” she said.

This year’s event will feature items from a religious bookstore that is going out of business, along with cash for gold items.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at St. Mary, 4280 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

At the chapel’s “Chic & Unique Bazaar,” shoppers will find handmade crafts, jewelry, knitted items, book signings, baked goods — and even treats for your feathery friends.

And, in case you’re looking for a pre- or post-meal before or after the Gourmet Lawn Party, the Chapel will have it: The event will feature a breakfast/lunch café.

The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive.
