The Florida Department of Transportation this week will begin applying permanent striping to the roadway as part of the ongoing construction projects on Gulf of Mexico Drive from the north end of New Pass Bridge north to the Manatee County line in Sarasota County.

There will be nighttime work between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. Weather permitting, striping operations should last about two weeks.

Improvements being made as part of these projects consist of removing old asphalt and resurfacing, installation of new sidewalk and bus pads, shoulder treatment, curb and gutters, signalization, highway signing and pavement marking, and traffic monitoring. Construction should be completing in March 2011.

For additional project information, please contact the town of Longboat Key Public Works Department at (941) 316-1988.
