Rivers resigns from complaint committee

City of Sarasota Police Complaints Committee member John Rivers resigned from the newly formed committee earlier this month.

Rivers’ resignation letter was accepted at the committee’s Aug. 24 meeting and the committee will begin actively seeking a new member.

Rivers, who organized efforts to desegregate area beaches and schools in the 1960s and 1970s, cited an inability to give the committee its full attention due to other commitments.
